A ceremony to transfer three sets of remains and belongings believed to be of American servicemen who died during the Viet Nam War was held at Da Nang International Airport on 2 April. Representatives of the US Consulate General in HCM City, the Viet Nam Office for Seeking Missing Personnel (VNOSMP) and the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) attended the ceremony.
The remains and belongings, which were found during the 126th Joint Field Activity (JFA) from February to April 2017, were handed over to representatives of the U.S. Government for repatriation to the U.S.A. for further identification.
Addressing the ceremony, the U.S. Government representative expressed her gratitude and appreciation for the steadfast humanitarian policies, good-will, and increasingly efficient cooperation of the Vietnamese government and people.
This is the 140th hand-over of American servicemen’s remains since the end of US combat involvement in 1973.
