The press conference in Ha Noi

The information was unveiled by Mr. Vu Tien Loc, Chairman of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), at the press conference held by this agency in Ha Noi on 21 June to update information on preparations for the APEC CEO Summit and business activities to be chaired by VCCI within the framework of the APEC Viet Nam Year 2017, themed “Creating new dynamism, fostering a shared future”.

VCCI’s Chairman announced that the series will begin with a start-up forum in Ho Chi Minh City on 13 September on the sidelines of the APEC Small and Medium Enterprises Ministerial Meeting (SMEMM). 

Other events are scheduled to take place in within the framework of the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week (AELW) in Da Nang in November.  They are the 4th meeting of the APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC) between 4 and 7 November; the APEC CEO Summit and the ABAC Dialogue with Leaders between 8 and 10 November.

Also at this press conference, ABAC’s Chairman Hoang Van Dung said that ABAC’s work plan in 2017 will also focus on encouraging innovations in the digital era, ensuring food security and promoting sustainable and smart agriculture adaptive to climate change.  Regarding the 2nd ABAC meeting in Seoul, Republic of Korea, he said APEC members agreed to focus their recommendations on the benefits of trade liberalisation and development as well as reduction of non-tariff barriers to goods.  The council emphasised the importance of the World Trade Organisation and values of free trade agreements such as the Free Trade Area of the Asia-Pacific, Mr. Dung said.

ABAC also noted that a stronger global supply chain will create opportunities to realise the huge potential of the digital economy and lenient policies will enable MSMEs to get easier access to international markets and global value chains and strengthen the participation of women in the economy.
