On behalf of city leaders, Chairman Luong Nguyen Minh Triet gave a warm welcome to the Daegu Metropolitan Council delegation - the first high-level Daegu City delegation to visit Da Nang following the nearly 3-year period of being severely impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, and underscored the delegation’s visit as even more significant in the context of Viet Nam - Korea diplomatic relations celebrating the 30th anniversary since their establishment (December 22nd, 1992 - December 22nd, 2022), and Da Nang City and Daegu City intend to celebrate the 20th anniversary since their establishment of friendly and cooperative relations.

Chairman Luong Nguyen Minh Triet introduced about Da Nang People's Council to the Chairman of the Daegu Metropolitan Council, Mr. Lee Man Gyu and the delegation, saying that it acts in a supervisory and authority role of the city, with 51 representatives making decisions to issue the mechanisms and policies of the city, while performing the function of monitoring policy implementation.

“As a major city of Viet Nam, the City’s People's Council’s Urban Committee carries out the very important role of monitoring and resolving issues that have great bearing on the development of the city, similar to the role of the Department of Traffic Construction of the Daegu Metropolitan Council", Chairman Luong Nguyen Minh Triet informed.

As stated by Chairman Luong Nguyen Minh Triet, in recent years, the friendly cooperation between Viet Nam and Korea, and between Da Nang City and Korean localities including Daegu in particular, have developed strongly in many fields such as culture, healthcare, education, human resource training, especially in the fields of tourism, trade and investment.

Currently, Korea is one of the top countries investing in Da Nang, with about 235 projects, and a total investment capital of roughly 380 million USD; most of the projects have been quite successful. After over 2 years of being interrupted due to the COVID-19 pandemic, in the three-quarters of 2022, nearly 150,000 Korean tourists returned to Da Nang. This is a good sign for the recovery and promotion of tourism development between Da Nang City and Korea.

“Hopefully with the positivity and efforts of both sides, the comprehensive friendship and cooperation relationship between Da Nang - Daegu will develop to a new height, become closer and more effective, helping both localities develop together, contributing to the common development of the friendship and cooperation between Viet Nam and Korea. In particular, we hope that in the coming time, there will be more exchange activities and experience exchange on council work between the Da Nang People's Council and Daegu Metropolitan Council,” Chairman Luong Nguyen Minh Triet shared.

Talking at the meeting, Chairman Lee Man Gyu assessed that, currently Viet Nam is gradually becoming an attractive investment destination for international investors in general and Korean investors in particular. “Besides being known as an attractive tourist city, in recent years, Da Nang has also been known as a city focusing on industrial development and a large industrial city in Central Vietnam. This is the factor that attracts Korean investors to Da Nang,” Mr. Lee Man Gyu informed.

Sharing with Da Nang city about the damage caused by recent floods, at the meeting, Chairman Lee Man Gyu and members of the delegation exchanged and shared experiences in construction and development of urban infrastructure to effectively respond to natural disasters of Daegu City.

“We sincerely hope that in the coming time, the friendship, good cooperation, and mutual trust between both cities will continue to be strongly promoted in many aspects of economy, culture, politics, people exchange, especially cooperation in the fields of tourism, health, urban infrastructure, and council work,” Chairman Lee Man Gyu shared.
