On November 5th, Da Nang Union of Friendship Organizations and Viet Nam-Laos Friendship Association coordinated with the Consulate General of the Lao PDR in Da Nang, the Women's Union, and the District People's Committees of Hai Chau, Thanh Khe, Lien Chieu, Son Tra, Cam Le, and Ngu Hanh Son to host the 2022 launching ceremony to welcome Lao students to their homestays. Attending the ceremony were Mr. Ho Ky Minh - Standing Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee and Mr. Souphanh Hadaoheuang - Consul General of the Lao PDR in Da Nang.

The homestay program for Lao students is coordinated by the Union of Friendship Organizations and the Viet Nam - Laos Friendship Association in collaboration with relevant agencies, departments, and schools in the City. The program has been conducted since 2011 and has become a bright spot and a  model that has been replicated throughout the Country.

This year, nearly 100 Lao students have been matched with homestays in the districts of Lien Chieu, Cam Le, Hai Chau, Thanh Khe, Ngu Hanh Son, and Son Tra from November 5th to November 27th. This is an occasion for them to improve their Vietnamese language and learn about the traditional customs, habits and lifestyles of Vietnamese people in general and local people of Da Nang in particular.

Speaking at the ceremony Mr. Ho Ky Minh, Standing Vice Chairman of the City People’s Committee, stated that the program has created meaningful relationships between Viet Nam and Laos parents and children, brothers and sisters, which is the core element for developing the close relationship between the people of Viet Nam and Laos. On the other hand he hoped that, with the responsibility of the local government and the kindness and hospitality of the people of Da Nang, the host families will warmly welcome the Lao students into their homes for 3 weeks and have them experience a warm and loving family life.

“I think this will be a very precious and meaningful time for the students who not only will have the opportunity to improve their Vietnamese communication skills and become acquainted with the local lifestyle, but most importantly, they will also have a second family during their time studying in the City and even after returning to their home country, that special, family feeling will be with them for the rest of their lives,” said Standing Vice Chairman Ho Ky Minh.

Mr. Souphanh Hadaoheuang, Consul General of the Lao PDR in Da Nang, said that since 2002 the University of Da Nang has received more than 1,000 Lao students to study at the university. Since then, many of them have become key officials and employees in state agencies from the central to the local level and others have become business owners with comprehensive capabilities.

“On behalf of the Laos Consulate General, Lao students, and their parents, I once again express deep gratitude and sincere appreciation to the Party, Government, authorities at all levels, universities, and people of Viet Nam as well as the people of Da Nang. We believe that this homestay program will be a connection for Lao students to have second parents and a loving family. This will contribute to promoting the Laos-Viet Nam and Viet Nam-Laos cooperative relationship to further increase the great friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive partnership between the two countries,” said Consul General Souphanh Hadaoheuang.

As a bridge to promote mutual cooperation and development, for many years the Union of Friendship Organizations and the Viet Nam-Laos Friendship Association have directly raised tens of billions of Dong in scholarships for Lao students who come to study at universities in the City. The two associations are supportive in implementing the City’s 35 agreements and memoranda of understanding signed with 7 localities in Laos. In particular, the cooperation programs for the period 2018-2022 between Da Nang and 5 provinces in South-Central Laos in various fields worth nearly 116 billion VND contribute to the socio-economic development of the Lao provinces.
