On 10 November, Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull eated a “banh my” breakfast with the Australian-Vietnamese celebrity chef Luke Nguyen before beginning a busy day of meetings for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders’ Week.

Buying the traditional roll from a street stall on Tran Van Thanh Street, Da Nang’s Ngu Hanh Son District, the Prime Minister enthused the bread roll of pate, pork, fresh herbs, mayonnaise and picked vegetables was “superb”. "This is the first time I’ve ever tried “banh my”! I love the fresh flavours of Vietnamese food”, Mr. Turnbull said.

The Australian Prime Minister added that “Viet Nam is Australia’s second largest export market for wheat and beef - wheat is predominantly used to make wheat noodles, and the majority of “banh my” that Vietnamese enjoy everyday”.

Chef Luke Nguyen is pleased that Vietnamese people increasingly have the opportunity to enjoy Australia’s premium food and beverages. “As the Taste of Australia Ambassador in Viet Nam, I’m excited to work with the Australian Government to bring more high-quality Australian food and beverages, including our famed beef, wine, wheat and dairy, to Viet Nam,” he said.
