International Press Conference for ABG5
An international press conference for the fifth Asian Beach Games (ABG5) took place in the city on 23 September.  In attendance were Mr. Dang Viet Dung, Vice Chairman of the Da Nang People’s Committee; Mr. Luong Ngoc Khue, Head of ABG5's Medical and Doping Control Sub-Committee; Mr. Pham Viet Tien, the Deputy-Director General of the Viet Nam Television; along with representatives from both domestic and international media agencies.

The Viet Nam Television will use its channels to broadcast live the opening ceremony on September 24, the closing ceremony on October 3, as well as four sports comprising Beach Soccer, Beach Volleyball, Beach Handball and Beach Sepak takraw.

 

About 3,1000 athletes from 42 countries and territories will compete in 14 sports, 22 disciplines and 172 events for 165 sets of medals of ABG5; along with 1,500 coaches, 550 international inspectors and referees; 600 domestic and international reporters as well as more than 1,500 volunteers, and a large number of health, security and traffic safety forces are to be involved in the Asian biennual sporting event. 

 

Asian Beach Games, initiated by OCA, is one of the biggest sporting events in Asia.  The first ABG took place in Indonesia’s Bali in 2008.  The second was held in Oman’s Muscat in 2010, and the third took place in China’s Haiyang in 2012.  The most recently ABG4 was held in Thailand’s Phuket in 2014 and the Viet Nam team was ranked fifth.
