City Leaders and Expats Get-together for Lunar New Year 2018

The city’s achievements in 2017, most notably the comprehensive success of the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week, were thanks to the support and contributions of those who are working in the diplomatic, consular offices, business communities, international government and non-governmental organisations as well as different individuals living and working in Da Nang.

“Without such support and contribution, our city could hardly have achieved such amplified success”. The People’s Committee Chairman Huynh Duc Tho stressed that at the annual Get-Together for ex-pats held by the Da Nang People’s Committee on 5 February in celebration of the upcoming Tet Festival.

Also attendance at the event were municipal Party Committee Deputy Secretary Vo Cong Tri and other city leaders, plus representatives from foreign diplomatic agencies and FDI businesses from across the city.

Chairman Tho said that the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week ended successful in Da Nang with the adoption of the Da Nang Declaration on “Creating new dynamism, fostering a shared future” had affirmed the important role of the host economy, Viet Nam, of which Da Nang is a proud part.  In particular, the name Da Nang has appeared in many talks of foreign delegates, which opens the opportunities for the city to further attract investment and promote trade and tourism.

He added that he year 2017 also witnessed positive performance in the city’s economy, with its GRDP and revenue increased by 9% and 17.96% respectively as compared to 2016.  Investment mobilisation gained effective results, in which foreign invested capital was 6.5 times higher than 2016’s and tourism had another boom with an increase of 20.6% in production revenue.  Da Nang also remained the champion in the provincial competitiveness index (PCI) ranking for the 4th consecutive year, and in the provincial administrative reform (PAR) ranking for the 5th consecutive year.

The city leader also remarked that the city has decided to name 2018 the “Year of Investment Promotion” which is offering a good opportunity to boost win-win cooperation between the city authorities and their foreign partners. Focus and prioritises will include conducting synchronous policies to attract investment and develop private businesses, motivating start-ups and technology innovations, restructuring the economy towards investing in key industries with competitive advantages, finalising the city’s master plan as well as the urban planning towards a sustainable city and a modern, civilised hub of the central region and highlands of Viet Nam.  In addition, Da Nang will secure its brand name as “a city of events” by continuing to host such events as Da Nang International Fireworks Festival, International Air-Balloon Festival and World Performing Arts Festival.  “In order to effectively achieve those tasks and targets, may I humbly call for your continued companionship and contributions, not only for international events but also for our entire path of developing a prosperous, peaceful Da Nang City”, said the Chairman.

Also at the event, 34 foreign organisations and 30 individuals were awarded Certificates of Merit from the city’s People’s Committee in recognition of their great efforts for local growth, as well as their active involvement in strengthening international friendship, and humanitarian aid work in the city over the past year.
