On 29 March, the Da Nang People’s Committee (DPC) held a ceremony to officially put into operation the 3.2km Nguyen Tat Thanh extension road, part of the Da Nang Sustainable Development Project, funded by ODA loans from the World Bank and the city budget, at Hoa Vang District’s Hoa Lien Commune.  In attendance were DPC Chairman Huynh Duc Tho and Vice Chairman Nguyen Ngoc Tuan.

The Nguyen Tat Thanh extension road begins in Hoa Lien Commune’s Van Duong Village, and ends at its intersection with the Hai Van Tunnel - Tuy Loan ring road.

Construction of the four-lane road cost a total of over VND153 billion, equivalent to US$6.8 million, sourced from the World Bank’s ODA loans and Da Nang’s counterpart funding.  The road will help reduce travel distance from the city centre to the northwest region from 23km to 11km.

Addressing the ceremony, Vice Chairman Nguyen Ngoc Tuan asserted that the finishing and opening to traffic of the Nguyen Tat Thanh extension road will help to link the existing Nguyen Tat Thanh road running along the beach and National Highway 1A with La Son – Tuy Loan Expressway, the city’s Hi-Tech Park, the Information Technology Park, newly-planned Lien Chieu sea port and railway station as well as the Golden Hills eco-urban area.  The city leader added that this would contribute to speeding up the development of the two parks and creating new momentum for the progress of the city’s northwestern part and its neighbouring areas.

The project was built by a joint-development group of Trung Nam Engineering and Construction and East Mekong company with the participation of Australian Sinclair Knight Merz design company under supervision and consultancy by Getinsa company from Spain and SCE from France.
