Da Nang and FPT Cooperates to Build Smart City

On 19 April, the Da Nang People’s Committee and FPT, a Vietnamese software giant, entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on building Da Nang into a ‘smart’ city over the 2018 - 2020 period.  Under this MoU, priorities will be given to help the city develop smart solutions in traffic and agriculture, English language training, health care and tourism.

The signing ceremony witnessed the presence of Da Nang People’s Committee Vice Chairman Ho Ky Minh and FPT’s Director-General, Mr. Bui Quang Ngoc.

The two sides agreed to complete online service in traffic and agriculture to boost connection between the city’s authorities and local residents, as well as to promote transparency in administrative procedure.

In addition, importance will be attached to promoting IT application in English language teaching and learning at schools, and piloting some smart applications to facilitate English training courses for pupils, students, and government employees.

As for the healthcare service, heed will be paid to develop a modern system to ensure the effective management activities at hospitals, and to offer IT solutions for medical examination and treatment services there.

In tourism sector, the emphasis will be on creating a smart application to check information on tourist guide cards, tourism transport vehicles, and businesses operating in the city.

Addressing the event, Vice Chairman Ho Ky Minh said that t Da Nang is making every effort to realise its goal of becoming a smart city and one of the dynamic localities in the central region.  The city leader added that this MoU would help Da Nang improve administrative reform and transparency for local people, businesses and tourists, and build Da Nang as a ‘liveable’ city in the near future.

Mr. Bui Quang Ngoc reported that, FPT, who started investment in the city from 2004, has so far employed more than 2,000 IT engineers from Da Nang to work for the FPT Complex in the city.

As planned, FPT will invest 15 billion VND (664,000 US$) into the city to deploy some pilot projects with smart applications over the 2018 - 2019 period.
