Korean Navy Ship Visits Da Nang

The Korean navy ship Roks Moon Mu The Great (DDH 979) with more than 300 officers and crew members onboard arrived at Tien Sa Port on 11 September to start a four-day official visit to the city.  The welcoming ceremony was held in the presence of leading representatives from the Commander of Naval Force Zone No 3, the Military Command and the Border Guard of Da Nang, the Foreign Affairs Department of the Defence Ministry and the Da Nang Department of Foreign Affairs.

Also attendance were South Korean Ambassador to Viet Nam Kim Do-Hyun and members of the South Korean community in the city.

This is the second visit by a South Korean naval ship to Da Nang with an aim of promoting relations between the navies of the two countries.

On the same day, Da Nang People’s Committee Vice Chairman Tran Van Mien met with the ship’s leaders led by Captain Doh Jin Woo.

Vice Chairman Tran Van Mien reported that Da Nang has to date established bilateral relations with 5 South Korean localities, namely Daegu, Changwon, Hawaseong, Seoul and Gyeongsan.  Up to now, the city has attracted 144 South Korean-invested projects with a total investment capital of over 600 million USD.

Currently, there are 9 direct air routes connecting the city with such Korean localities as Seoul, Pusan and Daegu, with in total 137 flights per week.  Da Nang welcomed a total of approximately 930,000 Korean visitors in 2017, the highest number of international tourists to the city.  This figure reached more than 800,000 in the first half of this year, a 101% increase over the same period last in year

The city leader said he believed that the visit would help to to promote the bilateralrelationships within the framework of the 2 countries’ strategic partnership.  He also said he hoped that the South Korean naval officers and sailors would spend much of their time exploring the beauty of the land, culture and people of Da Nang.

In rely, Captain Doh Jin Woo thanked the authorities and people of Da Nang for their warm welcome given to the officers and crew members of Roks Moon Mu The Great.  He also expressed his belief that the relationship between Da Nang and South Korean localities, and between the 2 countries as a whole, would grow strongly in a more all-around manner in years ahead.

During their 4-day stay in the city, the ship’s officers and crew members will also pay courtesy visit to the Commander of Naval Force Zone No 3, explore the beauty of the city, and take part in various exchange activities with members of the South Korean community in the city.

The destroyer will leave the Tien Sa Port for other destinations and its crew members will participate in a joint team formation and communication exercise with the Vietnamese Navy.
