On 30 October, the new Lao Consul General in Da Nang Viengxay Phommachanh paid courtesy visits to Da Nang People’s Committee Chairman Huynh Duc Tho. The city’s leader congratulated his guest on his new position.

The Chairman also expressed his delight at the fruitful results from the bilateral cooperation with Laotian localities over recent years. He reported that, to date, the city has entered into 30 agreements and memoranda of understanding on bilateral cooperation with some of Lao localities, namely Vientiane, Savannakhet, Champasak, Sekong, Salavane, Attapeu, Bolikhamxay, and Xaynhaburi.
Under these agreements, focus has been on exchanging high-ranking government officials, creating favourable conditions for Da Nang and Lao businesses to operate effectively in the localities where they pour their money, and boosting the bilateral cooperation in such aspects as trade, planning, agriculture, health care, education, culture, and social affairs.
Especially, in the aspect of education, since 2002, the University of Da Nang (UDN) has enrolled a total of about 750 Laotian students who have joined in Vietnamese learning programmes and studied for bachelor's and master’s degrees in education and economics. 194 of them are now studying at UDN’s member schools under the city’s scholarship programme.
The host said he would like the Lao diplomat to make every effort during his tenure to lift the bilateral relationships with Da Nang to new heights in the near future.
In reply, the Laotian guest highly appreciated Da Nang for giving significant support to Laotian localities in recent years. In particular, he also asked for help from the municipal authorities, plus local government departments and agencies, to facilitate him and his consular staff to fulfill their tasks, contributing to deepening the cooperative ties, long-lasting special solidarity and traditional friendship between the Parties, States, and people of the 2 countries.

The new Lao Consul General asked for help from the municipal authorities, plus local government departments and agencies, to facilitate him and his consular staff to fulfill their tasks, contributing to deepen the long-lasting the friendship between Laos and Viet Nam.
The Laotian diplomat also affirmed that he would do his utmost to bolster the bilateral relationships with Da Nang, and Viet Nam as a whole, in such aspects as investment, and security and defence at border areas, in the years ahead.
