Strengthening Smart Applications in Transport, Environmental Monitoring, Food Safety, Education and Medical Health

In the afternoon on 22nd October, Mr. Le Trung Chinh – Vice Chairman of the City People’s Committee had a meeting with a senior delegation attending the Smart City Summit and Japan ICT Day 2019 led by Mr. David Wong – President of the Asian-Oceanian Computing Industry Organization (ASOCIO).

On behalf of the City’s leaders, Vice Chairman Le Trung Chinh welcomed the representatives attending the Smart City Summit and Japan ICT Day 2019. He hoped this would be an opportunity for agencies and organizations to approach each other and discuss with domestic and external partners and experts regarding technological models and solutions and the policies for successfully and effectively implementing smart applications in Da Nang City.

In 2014, the City of Da Nang issued the “Building a smarter city project” and began to pilot smart applications in transport (transport control, smart camera, etc.), environmental monitoring (drinking water and air monitoring), food safety, education and medical health, etc. and shared open data to bring positive impact in urban management. Da Nang wishes to aim at a smart city model providing facilities, safety and friendliness for the people based on key technological applications of industrial revolution 4.0.

The Vice Chairman confirmed that in the city development strategies, Da Nang defined one of the five prioritized missions to be "developing IT, electronics and telecommunications in association with digital economy" with a 2025 target for IT to contribute 10% of the GRDP, and 15% by 2030. With the motto of accompanying enterprises, the city government always creates favorable conditions within the business and investment environment for enterprises, in addition to making IT Parks availabe to attract IT companies from all over the world. The Vice Chairman hoped that ASOCIO would continue to be a bridge for the city to approach other smart cities and IT companies in the region and around the world.

At the meeting, Mr. David Wong – President of ASOCIO highly appreciated the recent dynamic development of Da Nang City, a city which is continuously at the top of the ICT Index in the whole country. Especially in 2019, Da Nang has been awarded as “a smart city” by ASOCIO. Mr. David Wong hoped that the strengthening of sharing experience in building a smart city would contribute to speeding up the building and development of smart cities in Viet Nam in particular and other countries in the region in general, by implementing smart applications on the basis of new technologies.

Mr. David Wong said that, ASOCIO mentioned about smart city building as a key trend during the process of digital transformation in Asia and confirmed that ASOCIO would support Da Nang City in strengthening the activities of cooperation and connection with other smart cities. As stated by Mr. David Wong, Viet Nam is presently one of the countries with the fastest speed of urbanization in the region and the world. Therefore, the demand for building Da Nang as a smart city will guarantee sustainable development elements, especially such key issues as environment, medical health, education and transport, contributing to bring facilities, safety and friendliness to the people and tourists. The application of new technologies in industrial revolution 4.0 will be an effective solution to meet these demands.
