At the meeting, Ms. Maria Jesus Figa Lopez-Palop said that Spain always attaches importance to strengthening relations with Vietnam in general, Da Nang in particular and hopes that the two sides will deploy investment cooperation activities to promote strategic partnerships into depth. According to Ms. Maria Jesus Figa Lopez-Palop, Spanish businesses are very interested in the market in Da Nang city, focusing on the field of tourism, trade, environment, seaport development, logistics, etc.

The Ambassador also expressed her desire to promote cooperation in areas that Spain had strong experience such as infrastructure, tourism, high technology, construction and architecture. At the same time, promoting many cultural exchanges and people-to-people exchanges between localities, organizations of Spain and Da Nang city in accordance with the trend of developing relations between the two countries, especially on the occasion of 10-year anniversary of establishing strategic partnership towards the future between the two countries (2009-2019).

Noting the opinion of the Ambassador, Chairman Huynh Duc Tho affirmed that the city is always committed to create favorable conditions for Spanish businesses to invest and do business in Da Nang. According to Mr. Huynh Duc Tho, the city is currently calling for investment in a number of key infrastructure projects, namely the construction of Lien Chieu Port, relocation of the railway station, the solid waste disposal complex in Hoa Nhon, and improvement of water environment.

The Chairman hoped that Ambassador Maria Jesus Figa Lopez-Palop would continue to support the city to connect with Spanish investors and businesses to seek cooperation opportunities in Da Nang. At the same time, it is suggested that the two sides should soon build an action program to create a framework for cooperation in the coming time, especially in areas where Spain has strengths and Da Nang City is prioritizing such as public infrastructure, environment, tourism and commerce.

In Da Nang, there are currently 5 Spanish investment projects in operation with a total investment of nearly 200,000 USD. In the first 9 months of 2019, exports to Spain were estimated at US $ 3.6 million, up by 5% compared to the same period in 2018. Import turnover from Spain was estimated at US $ 3 million approximately, equal to the same period in 2018. The main export products are garments, seafood, toys, and handicrafts. Main import products are medicine, chemicals and spare parts, etc.
