Working Together, Elevating Viet Nam - Japan Relations to a New Level

In the evening of January 12th, the General Secretary of the Liberal Democratic Party, President of the Japan-Viet Nam Parliamentary Friendship Union Nikai Toshihiro and Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc attended the night of Viet Nam - Japan cultural, economic, and tourism exchanges. Attending the meeting were representatives of senior leaders of the Party, Government, National Assembly of Viet Nam, ministries, branches, leaders of provinces and cities of Viet Nam, etc. together with Japanese parliamentarians, officials, and businesses.

Speaking at the meeting, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc expressed his happiness when Mr. Nikai Toshihiro and the delegation visited Viet Nam and together hosted a Viet Nam-Japan exchange night. Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc stated that the exchange night is a special event, a vivid proof for the strong and comprehensive development of Viet Nam-Japan relationship. The Prime Minister expressed his gratitude and appreciated the important contributions of the Japan-Viet Nam Parliamentary Friendship Union and of Mr. Nikai Toshihiro in promoting Viet Nam-Japan relations.

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc added that Viet Nam always considers Japan as an important partner. The Prime Minister hoped that the two countries would work together, bring the relationship between the two countries to a new height. Japan and Viet Nam share a lot of common interests, although their economies are at different levels of development, they are complementary to each other rather than competitive. Currently, Japan is the largest ODA provider, the second biggest investor, the third in tourism and the fourth in trade of Viet Nam. These rankings will soon be changed and Japan will always be Viet Nam's largest partner.


Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc hoped that the two countries would work together to take the two countries' relationship to a new height.

Currently, the Vietnamese community in Japan is the third largest foreign community with nearly 400,000 people. In 2019, more than 900,000 Japanese tourists came to Viet Nam. In particular, Hoi An is a favorite destination for Japanese tourists. At the same time, more than 400,000 Vietnamese visited Japan.

The Prime Minister stated that, as a dynamic developing country with many potentials, Viet Nam wished to strengthen the connection between the two economies of Viet Nam - Japan through the CPTPP Agreement, with high and comprehensive standards for Japanese and Vietnamese businesses to cooperate, invest, transfer technology, develop markets, and participate in global value chains.

Speaking at the exchange night, Secretary General of the Liberal Democratic Party of Japan, President of Japan-Viet Nam Parliamentary Friendship Union Nikai Toshihiro emphasized that the relationship between Viet Nam and Japan had a long history and Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc had contributed greatly to promoting the relationship between the two countries.


The General Secretary of the Liberal Democratic Party of Japan Nikai Toshihiro and Japanese students presented Japanese language books to Vietnamese students.

The General Secretary of the Liberal Democratic Party of Japan Nikai Toshihiro expressed his joy for the good relations between the two countries. In 2019, people-to-people exchanges between the two countries reached 1,400,000. Currently, there are more than 370,000 Vietnamese people living and studying in Japan, which is a bridge to promote the relations between the two countries.

General Secretary of the Liberal Democratic Party of Japan Nikai Toshihiro said that together with the delegation visiting Viet Nam this time, there were 20 high school students. In the future, the relationship between Viet Nam and Japan will continue to develop.

General Secretary Nikai Toshihiro wished that Japanese students visiting Viet Nam this time would learn many things in many ways. After coming back to Japan, they would study hard and actively contribute to the development of bilateral relations, meeting people's aspirations.

Visiting Viet Nam this time, General Secretary of the Liberal Democratic Party of Japan Nikai Toshihiro and Japanese students presented Japanese language books to students of Nguyen Binh Khiem High School and Le Thanh Tong High School (Quang Nam), University of Foreign Languages - the University of Da Nang and University of Foreign Languages - Hue University. In the coming time, there will be many occasions to gift Japanese books to Vietnamese students and activities of building Nikai bookcases at the University of Foreign Languages - the University of Da Nang and the University of Foreign Languages - Hue University.
