On 6th March, Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Da Nang City Ho Ky Minh had a meeting with Ms. Mary Tarnowka, Executive Director of American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) Viet Nam in Ho Chi Minh City.
On behalf of the city’s leaders, Vice Chairman Ho Ky Minh warmly welcomed the working visit in Da Nang City of Ms. Mary Tarnowka, Executive Director of AmCham Viet Nam in Ho Chi Minh City and the US Navy delegation this time. Thereby, contributing to promoting the relationship of the two countries to develop in accordance with the framework of comprehensive partnership, promoting peace, stability and prosperity of the region and the world.
Vice Chairman Ho Ky Minh highly appreciated the development and positive result in the cooperation between Da Nang City and the US partners of which AmCham is an active partner. Vice Chairman affirmed that the city authorities have always considered America a key market and wished to invite the US investors and businesses with financial and technical capabilities to learn the investment environment and cooperation opportunities in Da Nang, especially in the city’s priority fields and the fields consistent with the strengths of US businesses such as information technology, electronic equipment manufacturing, aerospace, automation, artificial intelligence, assistive technology, healthcare, education, and real estates.

At the meeting, Ms. Mary Tarnowka, Executive Director of AmCham Viet Nam in Ho Chi Minh City exchanged promotion plans, organization of events to connect and introduce US businesses with Da Nang businesses in the near future. AmCham is an independent association of companies with the goal of promoting trade and investment, organizing events and conference in cooperation with Government agencies to create a better business environment.
Ms. Mary Tarnowka affirmed that the establishment of a representative office of AmCham in Da Nang City will contribute to promoting and calling US businesses to Da Nang City to invest in the city’s priority fields such as services, high technology, information technology. At the same time, creating a premise to promote the establishment of US Consular Office in Da Nang City.
Regarding the plan to establish a representative office of AmCham Viet Nam in Da Nang City, Vice Chairman Ho Ky Minh said that given the increasing number of US businesses investing in Da Nang City as well as the presence of many representative offices of US companies in Da Nang City, the establishment of a representative office of AmCham in Da Nang is necessary and will have a great impact to the development of commercial and investment cooperation of US partners in Da Nang. The city authorities and departments are always ready to support AmCham’s activities in Da Nang City.
In Da Nang City, there are currently more than 20 businesses having import-export relations with the United States. In 2019, the city attracted 56 US - invested projects with total capital of 598 million USD. Export turnover to US reached 340 million USD, increasing by 20.5 % compared to the same period in 2018. Import turnover from US reached 68 million USD, increasing 4.98% compared to the same period in 2018. The main export items are textiles, aquatic products, children’s toys, fishing rods, handicraft products, automotive components, plastic products. The main import items are materials for fishing rods, plastic beads, medicines, machinery, automobiles.
