The USS Theodore Roosevelt (the US) visited Da Nang City

In the afternoon on 5th March, the US Naval Ships, including the USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71) and the USS Bunker Hill (CG 52), arrived at Tien Sa Port, Da Nang City, beginning a visit to Viet Nam. Participating in activities of the US Naval Ships had ADM. John C. Aquilino – Commander of the US Pacific Fleet, and Mr. Ho Ky Minh – Vice Chairman of the City People’s Committee who presided over the reception of the Ships.

Upon the reception ceremony, Vice Chairman Ho Ky Minh and ADM. John C. Aquilino co-presided over the press meeting on introducing the visiting schedules of the US Naval Ships in Da Nang, Viet Nam.

Delivering speech at the meeting, ADM. John C. Aquilino said that following the historical visit of the USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70) to Viet Nam in 2018, this visit of the USS Theodore Roosevelt and the USS Bunker Hill continued as an important mark in the bilateral relationship between the two nations, showing a strong support of the US for Viet Nam. “We’d support Viet Nam in protecting your sovereignty and independence and implementing the freedom of reasonable maritime operations in the region”, affirmed by ADM. John C. Aquilino.

As one of the activities for the 25th anniversary of establishing the diplomatic relationship between Viet Nam and the US (12/7/1995-12/7/2020), as stated by Mr. Daniel Kritenbrink - the US Ambassador in Viet Nam, the visit of the US Naval Ships took place at the time when the bilateral relationship between the two nations has been becoming stronger than ever, aiming to the commitment of reliable – prosperous – sustainable partnership.

On behalf of the City’s leaders, Vice Chairman Ho Ky Minh joyfully welcomed the US Naval Ships to Da Nang City, Viet Nam, and stated that this visit contributed to strengthening the two nations’ relationship in all areas, conforming to the frame of a comprehensive partnership between Viet Nam and the US for the regional peace, sustainability, cooperation and development. As stated by the Vice Chairman of the City People’s Committee, the reception of the USS Theodore Roosevelt continued confirming the Da Nang Port’s capacity of reception of external naval ships, and confirmed the City’s roles and positions in activities of international cooperation, external exchange and national defense of Viet Nam.


The USS Bunker Hill (CG 52)

As acknowledged, the USS Theodore Roosevelt is the 4th Nimitz-class aircraft carrier of the US, with 5,000 crews supporting and implementing the activities of naval air forces. The Carrier Strike Group 9 (CSG 9) comprised 6,500 crews, an aircraft carrier, an air force, an ocean-going cruiser and 06 destroyers. Within the schedule of visiting Da Nang City, the delegation’s officers and crews would attend such community activities in Da Nang as music performance, sport festivals, English exchange programs; professional sharing about supporting disaster response, especially the prevention and fighting of COVID-19; fire prevention and fighting skills, etc.
