On December 2nd Mr. Le Trung Chinh, Standing Vice Chairman of the City People’s Committee, had a meeting with leaders of Boras, Sweden to discuss implementing the project “Scientific education for sustainable development of Da Nang City”.

Vice Chairman Le Trung Chinh chaired the meeting with the government of Boras, Sweden

The project aims to support Da Nang in establishing a tripartite cooperation model (government - business - school) that is similar to the Navet Science Center in Sweden. Navet Science Center is one of the major experimental educational centers in Boras where students experience practical lessons and experiments especially in the fields of natural science and the environment. In 2018, the Boras city government committed to support Da Nang in transferring the Center’s model, introducing a team of trainers, and sharing documents for reference. A center of science and technology will be built for teenagers, with integration of incubation and innovation, to promote scientific research for students and startups in Da Nang.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the two cities were unable to exchange delegations to share experiences and organize direct seminar activities. Therefore, the Swedish International Center for Local Democracy (ICLD) proposed that they support Da Nang to purchase equipment for online meetings, seminars, and training.

At the meeting, the two cities provided an overview of common issues that they are facing with the situation of COVID-19. At the same time, the Boras’s leadership also informed the City that the ICLD is expected to sponsor Da Nang in the purchase of equipment for online meetings and trainings for the project. The two cities discussed the process for receiving the project and aid because the seminar and training activities as originally planned could not be carried out due to COVID-19.

On behalf of Da Nang’s leaders, Mr. Trung thanked Boras’s representatives for their support of the project. The project aims to improve local youth awareness about sustainable development and the UN sustainable development goals with the support and sharing of experience and technology from Navet Science Center.

Mr. Trung assigned the Department of Foreign Affairs and the Department of Education and Training to coordinate with relevant units to build the teaching facility and the most effective way to impart knowledge about sustainable development in accordance with the actual situation of Da Nang. The textbook, methods, and digital tools for teaching and communication shared by Navet Center will be used.
