On the morning of 12th March, Mr. Ho Ky Minh – Standing Vice Chairman of the City People’s Committee presided over a meeting with Ms. Emily Hamblin, Consul General of the United Kingdom in Ho Chi Minh City, on the occasion of her visit to Da Nang.

At the meeting, the Vice Chairman introduced an overview on the City’s socio-economic development in 2020. Due to natural disasters and the pandemic, many economic sectors suffered serious difficulties, especially the tourism and service industries. With the 2021 theme “the year of economic growth recovery and development strengthening”, Da Nang will manage such difficulties for  enterprises while also boosting investment in the fields of tourism, services, and hi-tech.

In the field of IT, the City is focusing investment in Software Park 2 which will be partly put into operation in early 2022. Mr. Ho Ky Minh hoped that many British IT enterprises would consider working here.

Vice Chairman Ho Ky Minh wished that Consul General Hamblin, in her role and position, would be a connecting bridge facilitating British enterprises to come and visit the Da Nang hi-tech park and seek cooperation and investment opportunities. Specifically, Da Nang encourages British investors to cooperate with the City in such fields as climate change, environment, and sustainable development projects.

Thanking the City’s leader for the formal welcome, Consul General Hamblin highly appreciated the prevention and control of COVID-19 in Viet Nam in general and Da Nang in particular. She said that in recent years, the business relationship between Da Nang and the UK had become very good. The signing of the UK-Viet Nam Free Trade Agreement (UKVFTA) brought many benefits for both of the parties’ enterprises especially among products with exempted or reduced import tax including key ones of Da Nang such as frozen seafood, garments and textiles, and interior furnishings.

Ms. Hamblin stated that Da Nang is presently taking advantage of its infrastructure, low cost of living, high density of universities and colleges, IT parks and opportunities for future development. Consul General Hamblin trusted that with the City’s potential, British enterprises would seek cooperation and investment opportunities in various fields.
In 2020, Da Nang’s export turnover to the UK reached 30 million USD while UK exports to Da Nang reached 100 million USD.
