On the morning of February 25th, Vice Chairman of the City’s People’s Committee Ngo Thi Kim Yen chaired a meeting with Mr. Oliver Todd, the new British Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City on the occasion of his working visit to Da Nang.

At the meeting, Vice Chairman of the City People’s Committee Ngo Thi Kim Yen wished Mr. Oliver Todd, the new British Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City, a successful working term in Viet Nam; simultaneously, she briefly introduced the city’s 2021 socio-economic development before the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the development and construction orientation of the city in the coming time.

According to Vice Chairman Ngo Thi Kim Yen, currently, the relationship between Viet Nam and the UK is in a good development stage, and there are many opportunities to promote cooperation in many fields. Although Da Nang has not had an official cooperation relationship with any British localities, the exchange of delegations has still been maintained regularly. Annually, the city welcomes many British diplomatic, government, and business delegations to visit and work, as well as organizes delegations of the city’s leaders to visit and work in the UK.

The Vice Chairman of the City’s People’s Committee hoped that in the near future, the British Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City would consider and connect Da Nang with British organizations and businesses to expand cooperation relationships, thereby contributing to supporting Da Nang in realizing its goals by 2030 and becoming one of the major socio-economic centers of the country and Southeast Asia. As envisioned by 2045, Da Nang will have become a big, smart, creative, and sustainable city with its own identity. In the immediate future, Da Nang will most favorably facilitate businesses to come to the city to seek investment and cooperation opportunities in areas that both sides are calling for.

In his new position, Mr. Oliver Todd looked forward to meeting and discussing the possibility of cooperation with the Da Nang government through technical support, transportation infrastructure, environmental resources, and energy projects.

The British Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City highly appreciated the fact that Da Nang has applied digitalization in administrative fields, providing public services to citizens flexibly and efficiently. At the same time, he pledged to support Da Nang in many significant fields such as: building a smart city, 4.0 technology, green energy, renewable energy, waste treatment, and combating climate change, continuing to strengthen connections between UK investors and businesses with Da Nang businesses in the fields that the city is concerned with.
