Speaking at the ceremony, Vice Chairman Ho Ky Minh emphasized that Viet Nam and Laos are two close neighbors, and the two peoples have had a traditionally long-standing, loyal friendship. This is an exemplary, pure, and rare relationship in the history of international relations, an invaluable common property of the two nations. In Da Nang, based on the special traditional friendship between the two Parties and two States, the friendship and cooperation relationship between the city and Lao localities has been regularly strengthened and deepened in all fields of politics, economy, defense - security, education, culture, etc.

Up to now, the city has signed 30 agreements and MOUs with 7 Lao localities, in which, the friendship and cooperation relationship with 5 South Central Lao provinces has been effectively implemented through the Cooperation Program for the 2018-2022 period, such as: building and upgrading schools, public works, Vietnamese language centers; granting scholarships to students studying in Da Nang; sending teachers to teach Vietnamese at Vietnamese language centers; receiving officials of departments and branches to practice and learn experiences in Da Nang; supporting cultivation and livestock farming; supporting research on socio-economic development planning in localities, etc.

“On the occasion of the traditional New Year all Laotian peoples, on behalf of the Party Committee, government, and people of the city, I would like to wish you a happy and healthy new year, with prosperity to Mr. Viengxay Phommachanh and his wife, leaders, officers and employees of the Consulate General of the Lao PDR in Da Nang, and all Laotian people and students who are studying and living in Da Nang. I wish the special friendship, solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation between Viet Nam and Laos would forever be strong and sustainable”, Standing Vice Chairman of the City’s People’s Committee shared.

According to Vice Chairman Ho Ky Minh, over the years, the Consulate General of the Lao PDR in Da Nang has actively accompanied the city’s leaders, related departments, agencies, and sectors to implement many cooperation programs between Da Nang and Lao localities and achieved numerous practical results, thereby contributing to preserving, constantly cultivating and promoting the great friendship and special solidarity between Viet Nam and Laos.

“The Festival is organized to help Lao officials, people, and students who are currently living, working, and studying in Da Nang welcome a warm and fun traditional New Year, and at the same time, it is an opportunity for the city’s people, especially students, to have the opportunity to exchange, learn, and experience the culture of both countries”, Vice Chairman Ho Ky Minh shared.

Chairman of the Da Nang Union of Friendship Organizations Nguyen Ngoc Binh said that 2022 marks a particularly important event in the diplomatic relations of Viet Nam - Laos, which is the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations (September 5, 1962 - September 5, 2022) and 45 years of the Lao-Vietnamese Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation (July 18, 1977 - July 18, 2022). The traditional Lao New Year Festival is the beginning of a series of activities to celebrate important political and diplomatic events between both nations in Da Nang City.

According to the Consul General Viengxay Phommachanh, the festival would bring a warm and joyful traditional New Year atmosphere with traditional rituals such as thread bracelets, bathing Buddha, splashing water for luck, and circle dancing to pray for a new year of peace, happiness, and good weather; along with that, there are exchange programs and Viet Nam - Laos cultural, arts, and special cuisine events, contributing to helping participants understand more about the culture of both nations and the strong bonding relationship between the two peoples.

According to the 2022 People’s Diplomatic plan in Da Nang City, the Union of Friendship Organizations and the Vietnam - Lao Friendship Association will focus on organizing some activities to celebrate both countries’ important political and diplomatic events, such as: the traditional Lao New Year Festival; a homestay program for Lao students; a meeting and talk with Lao students studying in Da Nang and Vietnamese students on the occasion of the 73rd anniversary of the traditional day for sending Vietnamese voluntary soldiers and experts to Laos; a Vietnamese speaking contest for Lao students; a friendship and cooperation visit to Laos.
