On August 30th, at BRG Da Nang Golf Resort, a press conference took place before the BRG Open Golf Championship Danang 2022. Attending were Director of the Department of Tourism Truong Thi Hong Hanh, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture and Sports Nguyen Trong Thao, Mr. Chokchai Boonprasert - Director of BRG Open Golf Championship Danang 2022, Mr. Ken Kudo - Associate Director of Partnerships at Asian Development Tour (ADT), Mr. Mark Reeves - Division Director, Golf Development & Property Business at BRG Group, and representative international professional athletes.
Overview of the Press Conference
The BRG Open Golf Championship Danang 2022 will officially take place from August 31st to September 2nd, with the participation of 115 athletes. In which, most of the top players of the Asian Development Tour 2022 are present at this tournament.
Accordingly, all three rounds will serve from two holes: 1 and 10. Round one and round two will take place all day, round three (final round) will only take place in the morning of September 2nd. Initial results will be determined after the second day to select 50 golfers to compete on the final day.
According to Deputy Director of the Department of Culture and Sports Nguyen Trong Thao, the successful organization of the BRG Open Golf Championship Danang 2022 within the Asian Development Tour in Da Nang will create a stepping stone for Da Nang to continue to improve the quality of its golf courses and diversify golf tourism products, consequently, building the image of a hospitable destination upon welcoming numerous top Asian and Vietnamese golfers to Da Nang to compete.
At the press conference, Mr. Chokchai Boonprasert - Director of BRG Open Golf Championship Danang 2022, an experienced expert specializing in organizing Asia’s top international golf tournaments, and Mr. Ken Kudo - Associate Director of Partnerships at Asian Development Tour have provided information about the tournament’s rules and technical content.
BRG Open Golf Championship Danang 2022 is the first tournament under the Asian Development Tour to be held in Viet Nam. Currently, international referees are present in Viet Nam to be in charge of the completion of the course as well as the operation of the tournament. Designed as a Par 73 golf course, in the upcoming tournament, the course will be set at a standard Par 72 with a total length of 7,363 yards, in which the 10th hole, which is normally a Par 5 hole, will be adjusted to a Par 4 hole with a length of 502 yards. This will be a challenge for golfers participating in the tournament.
In addition to the above adjustment, the grass area on the course will also be set at standard length such as fairway grass 11mm, semi rough 25mm, rough 60mm, green speed during the tournament days will be maintained at 9 feet 6 to 10 feet 6.
At the press conference, Thailand’s pro golfer Chanat Sakulpolphaisan (currently ranked 4th on the Asian Development Tour’s payout chart this season), Dodge Kemmer from the US (currently ranked 6th on the Asian Development Tour’s payout chart this season) and Harrison Gilbert from Australia (currently ranked 12th on the Asian Development Tour’s payout chart this season) expressed how impressed they were on their first visit to Da Nang, especially with the opportunity to compete at the Nicklaus Course designed by the legendary Jack Nicklaus.
