Promoting cooperation in human resource training between Da Nang City and Sekong Province (Laos)

On September 13th, Vice Chairman of the City’s People’s Committee Le Quang Nam had a meeting and worked with Mr. Khamsone Konnho, Member of the Standing Committee, Deputy Governor of Sekong Province, Laos.

At the meeting, Vice Chairman Le Quang Nam welcomed the delegation to visit Da Nang City. On the basis of the special friendly cooperation relationship of the Parties, States, and people of both countries, Viet Nam and Laos, Da Nang City always cares and highly appreciates the cooperation relationship with the provinces of South and Central Laos, including Sekong Province.

In the 2018-2022 period, Da Nang spent 27.8 billion VND to support Sekong to build and upgrade schools, public works, and Vietnamese language centers; grant scholarships to students studying in Da Nang; appoint Vietnamese language teachers at Vietnamese language centers; at the same time, received departmental officials for training and research in Da Nang City.

In early July 2022, Da Nang’s delegation visited and worked in the South Central provinces of Laos. During this business trip, Da Nang signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the 2023-2027 period  with Sekong Province to promote cooperation in the fields of education and training, socio-economic development, trade, and investment, etc.

Vice Chairman Le Quang Nam affirmed that Da Nang would continue to care for and favorably facilitate good living conditions for Lao students to study and research. At the same time, Vice Chairman suggested that in the coming time, both sides should strengthen cooperation in education, human resource training, trade exchanges, and tourism, thereby, contributing to fostering strong friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation between Da Nang and Sekong Province in particular, and between Viet Nam and Laos in general.

At the meeting, Mr. Khamsone Konnho, Member of the Standing Committee, Deputy Governor of Sekong Province, Laos thanked the city’s government for the warm welcome. Over the past time, cooperation in education and human resource training, one of the effective areas of cooperation, has always been of interest to the authorities of Da Nang City and Sekong Province. Deputy Governor Khamson Kondo discussed the situation of overseas students of Sekong Province studying at the University of Da Nang and expressed his wish that the city would continue to support and favorably facilitate Lao students to access Vietnamese language training programs and exchange learning experiences, as a result, contributing to improving the quality of human resources for Sekong Province.

Overcoming the serious challenge of the COVID-19 pandemic, over the past time, both sides have regularly supported, encouraged, and shared experience in pandemic prevention. Up to now, both sides have also successfully controlled the pandemic and restored economic development.

Deputy Governor of Sekong Province Khamsone Konnho thanked Da Nang City for donating 10,000 masks, 500 bottles of hand sanitizer, and 200 million VND to help Sekong Province overcome difficulties during the pandemic.

2022 is significantly meaningful for both countries, with many activities to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations (September 5th, 1962 - September 5th, 2022) and the 45th anniversary of the Lao-Vietnamese Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation (July 18th, 1977 - July 18th, 2022).
