Da Nang: Promoting golf tourism and golf industry in Singapore

From October 1st to October 3rd, the delegation of Da Nang led by Vice Chairman of the City's People's Committee Tran Phuoc Son had a visit and work program in Singapore with a focus on promoting tourism activities, especially golf tourism and investment related to the golf industry.

On the morning of October 1st, at Asian Tour, Mr. David Rollo - Chief Operating Officer and Mr. Ken Kudo, Associate Director, Partnerships of Asian Tour received and discussed with the delegation about the cooperation between both sides in the near future. At the meeting, Vice Chairman Tran Phuoc Son said that with the aim of turning Da Nang into a center of tourism and high-quality services, the city is striving towards serving high-spending tourists and developing tourism and high-quality services associated with resort services. In particular, the positive outcomes of the Da Nang Golf Tourism Festival and the Asian Development Golf Tournament (ADT) in early September have shown that the cooperation with Asian Tour to organize the Asian Development Golf Tournament in Da Nang for 3 consecutive years from 2022 to 2024 will contribute to positioning Da Nang's golf tourism brand on the golf tourism map of the region and the world.

After the success of the first tournament, the city hoped that golf tournaments in the following 2 years would attract more professional golfers to Da Nang. Da Nang owns a system of world-class golf courses, with diverse terrain and pristine natural landscape, meeting the needs of first-rate golfing combined with relaxation of amateur and professional golfers, in which, 2 golf courses including BRG Da Nang Golf Resort designed by Nickalus and Greg Nornam and Bana Hills Golf Club designed by Luke Donald. Vice Chairman Tran Phuoc Son suggested that Asian Tour support networking and promoting golf courses in Da Nang, at the same time, he wished that Asian Tour would support famtrip and presstrip delegations to learn about Da Nang's golf tourism potential and support to invite KOLs to introduce and promote Da Nang on media channels.

Mr. David Rollo said that Da Nang is qualified to host regional and world-class golf tournaments. He suggested that in the immediate future, the city could host the Asian Tour golf tournament with prizes valued at millions of dollars. Accordingly, the sponsorship campaign needs the active participation of businesses. Asian Tour committed to support networking and promoting Da Nang's golf tourism; at the same time, they suggested that the city research to join the Asian Tour Destinations, thereby introducing Da Nang's golf tourism potential to top golfers in Asia. Vice Chairman Tran Phuoc Son assigned the Department of Tourism to act as the host to coordinate with Asian Tour in implementing cooperation activities, and simultaneously, to collaborate with BRG Group and VGS Company to soon prepare and campaign for sponsorship for the 2023 Asian Development Golf Tournament.

In addition to promotion, cooperation, and development of golf tourism, the city's leaders and sectors spent time discussing the promotion of investment in Da Nang's golf industry. Asian Tour committed to introducing investors to the city to survey and promote investment.

On the afternoon of October 3rd, the delegation worked with Singapore Airlines. Ms. Hui Ling Lau - General Manager of Brand & Marketing and Ms. Soraya Salim - Manager of Market Development & Media Planning spent time receiving the delegation and discussing the strengthening of cooperation between both sides.

Singapore is one of the crucial markets with great purchasing power in Southeast Asia. Before the COVID-19 pandemic, Singapore was always in the top 15 international tourist markets to Da Nang and top 3 Southeast Asian tourist markets to Da Nang (after Thailand and Malaysia). At the meeting, Vice Chairman Tran Phuoc Son highly appreciated Singapore Airlines’ efforts in resuming and maintaining the Singapore - Da Nang route. Singapore Airlines is also the first airline to reopen direct international flights to Da Nang on March 27th, 2022. Da Nang is advantageous of being a central hub connecting world cultural heritages, the end point of the East-West Economic Corridor, and highly convenient for connecting and developing flight networks as well as aviation logistics services. The city also has its own policy to encourage MICE tourism. The city leaders' suggested Singapore Airlines study and expand services in Da Nang, continue to cooperate and support tourism promotion to Da Nang, in which, focus is upon promoting Da Nang tourism on Singapore Airlines' media channels, coordinate to organize famtrip and presstrip delegations from Singapore, Europe, Australia, and the US to Da Nang. At the same time, the city asked Singapore Airlines to support the connection and invite international travel agencies (buyers) to participate in Viet Nam International Travel Mart (VITM), scheduled to be held in Da Nang in December 2022.

Ms. Hui Ling Lau said, Singapore Airlines highly appreciates the importance of the Vietnamese market in general and Da Nang in particular. After tourism was restored, Singapore Airlines reopened flights to Da Nang with a frequency of 7 flights/week with a high volume of passengers. Singapore Airlines commits to continue to maintain and expand its network in the coming time; at the same time, it will coordinate with the city to organize tourism promotion activities and connect flights to new markets such as Australia, India, and Indonesia. In the immediate future, both sides will make specific plans to focus on promoting Australia's potential tourism market.
