Great potential in promoting investment and tourism cooperation with India

From September 28th to September 30th, within the framework of working visits to India, Singapore, and South Korea, Da Nang’s delegation led by Vice Chairman of the City’s People’s Committee Tran Phuoc Son had a business trip to India to promote cooperation activities in investment, tourism, and trade. Participating were leaders of departments: Information and Communication, Tourism, Industry and Trade, and Foreign Affairs, and the Management Board of the Hi-tech Park and Industrial Zones.

Promoting cooperation in tourism and opening Mumbai - Da Nang direct flight on October 17th

On the afternoon of September 28th, the city’s delegation coordinated with the Consulate General of Viet Nam in Mumbai and Indian partners to organize conferences and seminars to network Indian businesses with the city’s functional industries. Trade and Tourism Investment Promotion Conferences and Investment Promotion Seminars with All India Association of Industries (AIAI) held in Mumbai attracted the participation of more than 100 enterprises and investors in many fields. After Vice Chairman of the City’s People’s Committee Tran Phuoc Son informed businesses about the city’s socio-economic situation and development orientation, they expressed special interest in Da Nang, a tourist destination with many distinct features regarding culture, food, experiences, sea tourism, ecotourism, and wedding tourism. Businesses also expressed their wish that visa procedures for tourists should be simplified to attract more Indian tourists. At the same time, they are also interested in the tourism ecosystem for Indian tourists, wishing to be facilitated to open more Indian restaurants in Da Nang for Indian tourists.


The Delegation at the Investment Promotion Seminar with All India Association of Industries (AIAI)

Vice Chairman Tran Phuoc Son said that over the past period, the city has increasingly worked with airlines to promote the opening of direct flights to Da Nang, especially after the city successfully organized Routes Asia 2022 in June. At the meeting, Mr. Jay Lingeswara, Director of Commercial, Strategy, and Planning of Vietjet Air informed the delegates about the plan to open direct flights from Da Nang to localities in India. On October 17th, Vietjet will launch the first direct flight from Da Nang to Mumbai with a frequency of 3 flights/week. Vice President Tran Phuoc Son said that with the plan to open direct flights from Indian cities to Da Nang, the connection between Da Nang and India will become easier than ever. He also acknowledged comments from businesses and assigned sectors to continue advising the city to recommend central ministries and branches to continue to favorably facilitate visa procedures for tourists.

Speaking about the prospect of cooperation between Da Nang and Indian partners in the tourism field, Mr. Hoang Tung, Consul General of Viet Nam in Mumbai emphasized the friendship between Viet Nam and India and cultural similarities between both sides. That is the attraction of Viet Nam in general and Da Nang in particular with Indian tourists. Mr. Parker, Marketing Director of Furama Resort added, with a beautiful stretching coastline, Ba Na cable car system, as well as the geographical advantage of being the center of cultural heritages, Da Nang will be an ideal destination for Indian tourists to visit, travel, and organize weddings. With improvements in e-visa as well as the Government’s direction, hopefully in the near future, businesses’ concerns will be resolved.

At the Seminar, Mr. Anant Singhania, President of the Indian Merchants Chambers (IMC) emphasized the importance of promoting cooperation between businesses of both sides. Mr. Ajoykaant Ruia, Chairman of the Indo-Vietnamese Chamber of Commerce & Industry, said that in 2023, he will study to organize a cooperation forum between Vietnamese and Indian businesses in Da Nang at a suitable time.

Promoting investment and trade cooperation with Indian businesses

At the meeting with Indian businesses on the afternoon of September 28th, they also paid attention to investing in Da Nang in the fields of trade, import-export, and logistics. The industries have informed the businesses about investment projects and procedures in Da Nang, and preferential policies when investing in Da Nang Hi-tech Park.


The delegation working with India’s leading IT company - Infosys

On the morning of September 30th, the delegation visited and worked at Infosys, India’s leading IT company. At the meeting, Vice Chairman Tran Phuoc Son emphasized the comprehensive strategic partnership between Viet Nam and India, the interest of the Vietnamese government, especially Da Nang City, in investing in the IT industry and digital transformation for the digital economy. Members of the delegation and the company’s representatives discussed the potential for cooperation between both sides in the coming time, especially in the field of digital finance for an International Financial Center, promoting innovation and supporting human resource development through collaboration in vocational and university-level training programs. Currently, Da Nang is developing a policy to support investors and businesses operating in the city’s IT Parks, with the goal of building specific mechanisms and policies to encourage businesses to invest and operate in concentrated IT and Software parks in the city. Da Nang has a system of universities providing quality IT human resource training services for the region. The city’s leaders would like the company to take the time to explore investment cooperation opportunities in Da Nang and cooperate in human resource training with the University of Da Nang.

Mr. Sushanth Tharapan - Senior Vice President of Infosys said, he was very impressed with the development of IT and digital transformation of Da Nang recently; he suggested that both sides should jointly explore investment cooperation opportunities, especially in the fields of software production and digital finance and banking. He hoped that the cooperation relationship between Da Nang and Infosys would open and prove the relationship and cooperation between both countries. Infosys will organize a delegation to Da Nang to work with partners, businesses, and training institutions, including the University of Da Nang to explore investment opportunities, human resource training, etc. At the meeting, both sides assigned contacts to connect and promote cooperation in the near future.
