On March 27, Vice Chairwoman of the City People's Committee Ngo Thi Kim Yen had a meeting with the Board of Directors of OneSky (USA) led by Ms. Jenny Bowen, Founder of OneSky.
Ms. Ngo Thi Kim Yen said the Vietnamese Government in general and Da Nang City Government in particular are interested in improving early childhood education and developing policies to support the children of working families, especially workers in industrial zones. “Da Nang has over 40% of public pre-schools and nearly 60% of private pre-schools. All pre-schools in the city must comply with the regulations for preschool education under the Education Law, and all enjoy supportive policies to ensure a learning and playing environment for children. However, it is still not possible to achieve the best desired outcomes," said Ms. Yen.
In that context, OneSky's active support through the OneSky Preschool Care and Education Center project is of great significance. Over the past 6 years, along with the efforts and facilitation of the City Government, the project has provided care for hundreds of children from families of workers in difficult circumstances within the industrial park, helping to reduce their economic burden and stabilize their lives.
According to Ms. Ngo Thi Kim Yen, the project has assisted Da Nang with child protection, care and education, and with the implementation of social security policies. In addition, through training courses in child care, nurturing, and education, the project has helped improve knowledge, skills, and capacity in child care, nurturing, and education for preschool teachers and owners of private schools in the City and improved the City's quality of preschool education.
“The city leaders acknowledge and appreciate the active support of OneSky in the past and are also very pleased that OneSky has signed an Agreement with the Department of Education and Training to continue to sponsor the OneSky Preschool Care and Education Center project in the period of 2022-2025. The City Government is committed to closely coordinating with OneSky so that the project can continue to be implemented effectively in the future," the Vice Chairwoman of the City People's Committee said.
Ms. Jenny Bowen said that since 2017, 628 children from 6 months to 6 years old have gone to OneSky - Da Nang Preschool Care and Education Center. The children can stay there from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday morning to Saturday night and can have 5 meals a day while their parents work shifts at the industrial parks. All parents’ pay for each child is 800,000 VND/month compared to the full cost of 3,400,000 VND/month With the cost difference paid for by OneSky.
For children with special family circumstances, the Board of Directors decided to reduce the tuition fee to 400,000 VND/month, 200,000 VND/month, or completely free. OneSky Preschool Care and Education Center has also organized a number of trainings for administrators and preschool teachers in Da Nang and other provinces over the past 5 years. It is expected that the total funding from OneSky for the project in the period of 2022-2025 will be over 1.7 million USD, equivalent to over 40 billion VND.
“We are extremely grateful for the support of the City People's Committee and local agencies so that the project was implemented effectively and beyond our initial expectations. OneSky is committed to cooperate and accompany the City in the next period so that the achieved results will not only prevail in Da Nang, but will also be replicated in other provinces and cities of Viet Nam”, the founder of OneSky stated.
