On April 19th in Hanoi, the Da Nang People's Committee of and the Viet Nam Film Development Association (VFDA) co-organized a press conference to introduce the first Da Nang Asian Film Festival (DANAFF) in 2023. Ms. Ngo Thi Kim Yen - Vice Chairwoman of the Da Nang People's Committee and Dr. Ngo Phuong Lan - President of the VFDA and Vice Chairwoman of the Central Council for Literary and Art Criticism co-chaired the press conference.
DANAFF, directed by the Da Nang People's Committee and led by the VFDA, in coordination with the Da Nang Department of Culture and Sports, as well as various departments, organizations, and individuals inside and outside the country, will select and honor outstanding and humanistic cinematic works that bring new discoveries and unique artistic expressions. It will encourage new talents in Vietnamese and Asia-Pacific cinema and introduce to the public new cinematic works of high artistic and cultural value from Asia and Viet Nam, and selected films from around the world.
The 1stDANAFF will take place over 5 days from May 9th to May 13th. The Opening and Closing Ceremonies and Awards Ceremony will be broadcast live on Viet Nam Television (VTV) and relayed on Da Nang Television and other television stations. Universe Media Vietnam Co., Ltd. is the partner responsible for implementing and coordinating the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of DANAFF. Mr. Tran Viet Bao Hoang, CEO of the company, will oversee production direction and Tran Vi My will be the creative director and producer. The Opening and Closing Ceremonies and Awards Ceremony are built on the spirit of a continental film festival to promote the image of Viet Nam to the world and attract international friends to Viet Nam, especially Da Nang.

Speaking at the press conference, Ms. Ngo Thi Kim Yen - Deputy Chairwoman of the Da Nang People's Committee said that Da Nang is a young and dynamic city with a service and tourism-oriented development direction. Da Nang identifies itself as an "event city" that is suitable for the city's development process.
"With the first Da Nang Asian Film Festival 2023, we hope to continue to create a brand of international events in the film industry, contribute to the integration and development of Da Nang's film industry, and affirm the position of the 'Leading Asian Festival Destination.' In addition, we hope that the film festival will be a bridge and a valuable opportunity for artists in general, and the film industry in particular to exchange professional experiences, ignite new ideas, and contribute to the development of the Vietnamese film industry and the city of Da Nang. Above all, the Film Festival will be a special film event for the public who love this art form," emphasized Ms. Ngo Thi Kim Yen.
The 1stDANAFF will have 26 films from Viet Nam and 10 films from Asia-Pacific. The highlight of the Film Festival is the competition between films in two categories: the "Asian Film Award" and the "Vietnamese Film Award." The jury panel, composed of Vietnamese and international film experts, will evaluate and select 12 official awards.
