Da Nang Strengthens Relations with Laotian Localities

On the afternoon of September 22, Mr. Luong Nguyen Minh Triet, Member of the Central Committee of the Party, Permanent Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, and Chairman of the City People's Council, hosted a reception with a delegation from the Lao National Assembly's Ethnic Affairs Committee, led by Chairman KhamchanSotapasot. Also present at the meeting were Ms. Cao ThiXuan, Deputy Chairman of the National Assembly's Ethnic Council, and Mr. Ho Ky Minh, Permanent Deputy Chairman of the Da Nang City People's Committee.

Mr. Luong Nguyen Minh Trietexpressed his joy at this visit, which contributes to nurturing the special friendship between the two nations, Vietnam and Laos, as well as between Da Nang City and Laotian localities.

Mr. Luong Nguyen Minh Trietprovided an overview of Da Nang City, its economic and social development, emphasizing that Da Nang has been identified as the growth nucleus of the Central Vietnam Key Economic Region. In the first six months of 2023, Da Nang's GRDP growth rate was estimated at 3.74%. The city's economic scale expanded by over VND 5,318 billion compared to the same period in 2022.

Da Nang City has signed 30 agreements and memoranda of understanding with 7 Laotian localities, including the capital, Vientiane, Xaynhaburi Province, Savannakhet Province, Champasak Province, Sekong Province, Salavan Province, and Attapeu Province.

Among these mentioned localities, the cooperation between Da Nang and the 5 southern provinces of Laos (including Savannakhet, Champasak, Sekong, Salavan, and Attapeu provinces) has been effectively implemented through 5-year cooperation programs. These programs have focused on various areas, including building and upgrading schools, public infrastructure, Vietnamese language teaching centers, and providing scholarships for students to study in Da Nang. Other initiatives include sending Vietnamese language teachers to Vietnamese language centers and receiving officials from Laotian departments and sectors to intern and learn from Da Nang City, as well as providing support for agriculture and livestock farming and conducting research on local economic and social development planning.

Chairman KhamchanSotapasot, Chairman of the Lao National Assembly's Ethnic Affairs Committee, expressed his admiration for Da Nang's achievements, especially its rapid recovery and development in the tourism sector. He is confident that with these excellent results, the special Vietnam-Laos friendship will continue to reach new heights, remaining forever fresh, sustainable, and enduring.
