Japan Coast Guard’s training vessel visits Da NangA training vessel from the Japan Coast Guard, the JCGS KOJIMA (PL21), carrying 82 sailors and crew members arrived in Tien Sa Port on 30 July at the start of their five-day official visit to the city. The visit was within the framework of the training exchange programme with the Marine Police Zone No 2 in Quang Nam Province. On the same day, Vice Chairman of Da Nang People’s Committee, Mr Phung Tan Viet, met with the vessel’ leaders led by commanding officer Naomi Kawakami.

EWEC Investment Trade and Tourism Fair 2013 in Da Nang500 stands from 300 enterprises and units are displaying their products and introducing their services at the East-West Economic Corridor International Investment Trade and Tourism Fair 2013 (EWEC – DA NANG 2013) which began on 8 August. They include 51 stands from Thailand,14 from Lao PDR, and 1 from Cambodia. This is the third time such an event is being held in Da Nang.

6th Viet Nam-Thailand JWG Meeting on Political and Security opens in Da NangThe 6th meeting of the Viet Nam-Thailand Joint Working Group (JWG) on political and security cooperation took place in Da Nang from 7 - 8 August. The event was co-chaired by Viet Nam’s Deputy Minister for Public Security, Lieutenant General To Lam; and the General Secretary of the Thai National Security Council, Mr Panadorn Pattanatabut.

Nearly 2 billion VND for community-based mental healthcareThe Da Nang People’s Committee has approved a project funded by the BasicNeeds organisation from the UK which will support the creation of a community-based mental healthcare and development model in Da Nang. The project will have a total funding of approximately 2 billion VND, and will be implemented from now until 2015.

EWEC Trade and Tourism Fair 2013 to open in Da NangThe East-West Economic Corridor (EWEC) Trade and Tourism Fair 2013 will open at the Da Nang Fair and Exhibition Centre on 8 August. Da Nang's Department of Industry and Trade report that 450 stands of 280 enterprises and organisations have registered for the Fair so far. This will be the third time that this event has been held in Da Nang.

"Pathways to Water Resilience - A Comprehensive Assessment" project launched in Da NangA conference to launch the "Pathways to Water Resilience - A Comprehensive Assessment" project has recently been held in Da Nang by the city’s People’s Committee and the Institute for Social Environmental Transition (ISET) from the USA. The conference highlighted the governance of Da Nang’s surface water resources given the background of climate change.

Sand Sculpture Contest held in Da NangOn 28 July, the 2nd Sand Sculpture Contest was held at My Khe Beach, Son Tra District. The event was organised by the Da Nang Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism in cooperation with the Silver Sun Company Limited, and it attracted 48 teams from countries including Australia, the USA, Japan, the Republic of Korea, and the host country Viet Nam, as well as thousands of spectators.

Da Nang welcomes first direct flight from Korea’s BusanOn 26 July, the first direct charter flight from Busan in the Republic of Korea landed at Da Nang International Airport with 170 passengers on board. Viet Ly Mien Trung, a Korean travel company, hired Vietnam Airlines’s services for the flight.

Photo exhibition about AO victims opens in Da NangA photo exhibition, entitled “The Effects of Agent Orange - Conscience and Justice” recently opened at the Museum of Da Nang (24 Tran Phu Street). The event has been organised by the Viet Nam Association of Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin (VAVA), the Da Nang People’s Committee, the High Command of Military Zone No 5, and the High Command of Chemical - Ministry of Defence. It is part of a series of activities in response to the movement “Acting for AO Victims” to mark the 52nd anniversary of the AO disaster in Viet Nam and the day for Vietnamese AO victims.

Da Nang launches tourism logo and slogan competitionThe Da Nang Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism recently held a press conference to launch the “Da Nang Tourism Logo and Slogan Competition 2013”. The event aims to find a new impressive and meaningful logo and slogan which will help to locate and identify Da Nang as a tourist destination. In addition, the competition aims to give the city tourism a professional image to tourists and investors.
