9 million USD for people with disabilities in Da Nang
The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) will provide 9 million USD of funding to implement the second phase of its project to support the city’s disabled people over the next 3 years. The funding allocation was announced by Mr Joekim Parker, the new director of USAID, in a recent meeting with the Vice Chairman of Da Nang’s People Committee, Mr Nguyen Xuan Anh.

The new director said that some new models will be applied in the second phase of the project to ensure comprehensive care for the disabled in Da Nang.  If successful, these new models will be replicated and applied to other vulnerable groups.

The first phase of the project to support Da Nang’s disabled people, implemented from 2008 to 2011, involved a total funding of over 2.4 million USD.  The money was provided by USAID through three NGOs from the USA - Save the Children, the East Meets West Foundation (EMWF), and the Viet Nam  Assistance for the Handicapped Organisation (VNAH).
