2 million USD for Da Nang’s smart transport network
The Japanese government will help Da Nang to establish a smart transport network, which would help the city to avoid such common traffic problems as in other big cities. The Japanese support will involve the application of information and communication technology (ICT) systems to improve Da Nang’s public transport services, smart parking lots, Global Positioning System (GPS) in the management of public transport systems, and a geographic information system (GIS) to identify public transport corridors and assist the management of land use along these corridors.
A memorandum of understanding (MoU) on providing this technical assistance for the Da Nang Urban Transport Improvement Project was signed recently in Da Nang between the city’s Department of Transport and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
JICA also committed to supporting Da Nang in the design and organisation of traffic at some junctions where traffic jams often occur, suggestions for a one-way road system, and the training of human resources in urban management.
The 2 million USD project is scheduled to be implemented from the second quarter of 2013 and completed by the end of 2015.
