Intensification of Tourism Cooperation with Thailand
On 17 August, the Vice Chairman of the Da Nang People’s Committee, Mr. Ho Ky Minh, played host to Ms Pitinun Samanvorawong, the Commercial Consul at the Thai Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City.

The Vice Chairman expressed his delight at the fruitful results from the cooperation with Thailand over recent years, especially in such aspects as the economy, trade, and investment.  He said that Da Nang has established bilateral relationships with some Thai localities, including Khon Kaen, Phuket and Chiang Mai.  Nearly 20 enterprises of Da Nang are doing business with Thai partners, and two Thai-invested enterprises are operating in the city with total capital of more than 10 million USD.  In addition, the new Bangkok–Da Nang direct flights, operated by Bangkok Airways since May and more recently by Vietnam Airlines, have helped the 2 countries to further boost their cooperation in trade, investment and tourism.

The city leader took the opportunity to ask the Thai diplomat to appeal for more Thai businesses to visit Da Nang to learn about the local investment climate, and to establish bilateral cooperation with the city’s businesses in various aspects, especially in logistics.  He also asked the Thai Commercial Consul to create even more favourable conditions for businesses from Thailand and Da Nang to promote their tourism cooperation, and especially to develop more road trips via the East-West Economic Corridor.

It is reported that two-way trade between Thailand and Da Nang in 2015 was estimated at 31.2 million USD including the city’s import turnover from Thailand of nearly 30 million USD.  Bilateral import-export turnover reached 15.3 million USD in the first 6 months of 2016.
