Chairman Chien spoke of Da Nang’s potential, strengths and socio-economic development achievements in recent years as well as the city’s future orientations.  The city leader highly appreciated cooperative relations between Da Nang and Thai localities in education and training, cultural exchanges and tourism development.  He added that the city is trying its utmost to promoting the signing of MoUs for establishment of cooperation with Thai localities including Khon Kaen, Mukdakan, Nakhon Phanom, Phuket and Chiang Mai.  Thai tourist arrivals to Da Nang by road have increased rapidly in recent years with a total estimated number of 600 to 700.  Chairman Chien said he hoped that Da Nang and Thailand will strengthen their cooperation in commerce, tourism, investment and effective exploitation of the EWEC.  In addition, the two sides will promote the establishment of the direct Bangkok – Da Nang air route and opening of a Thai Consulate General in Da Nang.

Deputy Minister Jullapong Nonrichai said he hoped that Da Nang and Thailand will cooperate to solve current difficulties on the EWEC, and promote the exploitation of transport potential on the National Highways No 8 and No 12 connecting Thailand and Viet Nam with Laos PDR.  He emphasised that this would help to speed up cooperative relations among localities of the two countries, most notably in investment, industry, commerce and tourism.
