During the business trip to the United States and Taiwan from February 25th to March 5th, 2024, on March 1st (local time), the delegation from Da Nang visited and worked with Qualcomm at its headquarters in San Diego, California, USA. This is the second specific cooperation activity between Da Nang and Qualcomm following the direct visit and survey by Ms. An Chen - Senior Vice President of Technology of Qualcomm in Da Nang on January 11th, 2024. Welcoming and working with the delegation were Dr. Baaziz Achour,Vice President of Technology at Qualcomm, who also is responsible for AI, semiconductor technology, human resources, and legal affairs.
The Da Nang delegation introduced the strengths of Da Nang in attracting investment and creating a favorable business environment for enterprises, highlighting its developed infrastructure, high-quality human resources, and attractive investment support policies.
Currently, the city is drafting two resolutions on special policies to attract overseas Vietnamese intellectuals in the semiconductor field to transfer knowledge and technology to relevant parties, and a resolution on support policies for participants in training programs, and learners in the semiconductor and chip design industry in the city.
In addition, the city has established the Da Nang Semiconductor and Artificial Intelligence Design Training Center (DSAC) since the beginning of 2024 to prepare resources to welcome and work with enterprises, investors to promote development in these fields in the city. Moreover, the infrastructure at Software Park No. 2 is being completed for enterprises and organizations to establish their headquarters here.
Furthermore, a university alliance consisting of Danang University of Science and Technology, Danang University of Information Technology and Communications, Danang University of Technology Education, Duy Tan University, and FPT University Danang has been established to enhance cooperation in training semiconductor and AI design personnel locally.
Qualcomm announced plans to establish a Research and Development (R&D) Office in Da Nang and proposed that the DSAC Center and the Investment Promotion and Support Board act as the focal points to support Qualcomm in opening the AI research office at Software Park No. 2 Da Nang (phase 1) in 2024.
The city leadership pledged to fully support the establishment of Qualcomm's R&D Office and, in collaboration with Qualcomm Academy, will implement some short-term training courses leading to Qualcomm certifications for human resources in Da Nang. Both sides also agreed to cooperate in organizing solutions and competitions to seek talent and innovate in chip designin the coming time.
During this visit, the Da Nang delegation was introduced to Qualcomm's latest unreleased technologies.
